Research Interests:
The Jews of Spain. Hispania Judaica: preparation of a detailed historical gazetteer of all the Jewish communities in Spain,
from the earliest settlement until the 1492 expulsion. The Sephardi world.
Abstract of Current Research:
The expulsion of the Jews from Spain: The year 1992 will be the 500th anniversary of the expulsion of the Jews from Spain. 1500 years of Jewish life in that country came to an abrupt end and about 200,000 Jews sought a haven in other countries.
Research has examined the reasons for the Expulsion, as well as the Jewish and Christian reactions to the Order of Expulsion. Newly discovered documents that shed light on Jewish
life in the Iberian Peninsula at that time have been prepared for publication.
