Research Interests:

Biblical Israel from its origins until the destruction of the First Temple.

Research Projects:

The discoveries of Mari and Early Israel. Funding: Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

Abstracts of Current Research:

Israel in the biblical period:

Research focuses on the emergence of Israel as a people, the proto-history, David and Solomon, the last days of Judah, and the destruction of the First Temple.

Mari, the Bible and Israel:

The discoveries at Mari, both archaeological and epigraphic, are presented. The various documents found (1933-1989) can be utilized for a comparative study of the Bible. Among topics examined are divination and prophecy, historical setting, and sociological aspects, especially tribalism, as well as geographic issues (the "West," i.e., Palestine-Syria).
