Research Interests:

The history of Polish Jews and history of Poland in the 16th-18th centuries. The socioeconomic history of Eastern Europe.

Research Projects:

1. Preparation of a scientific edition and translation of Meir Balaban's opus on the history of the Jews of Krak?w and Kazimierz (c.1200 pp.) in Hebrew, with an introduction regarding the significance of his work and place in historiography.

2. Jew and the tavern in the Polish Commonwealth in the 17th-18th centuries.

Abstracts of Current Research:

Jewish privileges in the Polish Commonwealth:

Recent studies have been devoted to preparing a second volume on Jewish Privileges in the Polish Commonwealth - The Charters of Rights Granted to Jewish Communities in Poland-Lithuania in the 16th-18th Centuries (the first volume of which appeared in the early 1980s). The project presents a collection of texts not found in archives. The material, to be presented with an explanatory introduction, with critical apparatus for each original document, will serve as a basic tool for the study of the history of the Jews in Poland, and of Polish history in general.
